ASA's new office in Shanghai, China gives ASA permanent presence in China with access to Eastern Asia. China is a key location as the country and region is undergoing rapid population growth and development.
ASA China is led by Haiwei Shen, Ph.D. who recently joined ASA to focus on building the Shangahi office. Dr. Shen is interested in chemical oceanography and atmospheric chemistry and brings ASA's modeling and visualization innovations into new areas, expanding further from oil and chemical pollution into ecological, coastal management and data analysis and interpretation.
ASA has been working in China since 1998, with oil spill response tools used widely throughout the region. ASA has involvement in a number of various science and technology projects in the area. One of ASA’s early projects was a partnership with Shanghai Academy of Environmental Science (SAES). ASA and SAES have been working together to integrate the best available hydrodynamic models and environmental data with ASA's GIS and modeling tools. The new office in China is an important step in ASA’s commitment to support a growing list clients in the region.
