EPA Support Contract

ASA is on a team of companies lead by ERG that was recently awarded a contract with the US EPA to provide technical support services to its office of Oceans and Coastal Protection Division (OCPD). OCPD is one of three divisions within the EPA Office of Wetlands, Ocean, and Watersheds and it operates under major environmental legislation, such as the Clean Water Act, and under international treaties such as MARPOL. OCPD has the responsibility to manage and oversee programs intended to protect the oceans, estuaries and coastal waters of the US. The OCPD mission is to protect human health and the environment, reduce risk to human and aquatic life from pollutants, and restore and maintain the environmental benefits and uses of water bodies and their surrounding environments.

The technical support services contract provides services under several OCPD program areas:

  • National Estuary Program
  • Coastal watersheds
  • Ocean disposal
  • Pollution control
  • Technology transfer
  • Smart growth
  • Marine debris
  • Coral reefs
  • Invasive species
  • Impact assessments
  • Monitoring of marine discharges and coastal waters
  • Impacts of climate change on coastal resources
ASA supports these program areas with the following expertise:
  • Analysis of physical, chemical and biological processes in aquatic environments
  • Analysis of the release of sediments and contaminants from dredging and disposal operations
  • Development and application of hydrodynamic, water quality, sediment transport and hazardous material spill computer models in rivers, lakes, estuarine, coastal and shelf environments
  • Coastal physical oceanography
  • Assessment and modeling of the impacts of pollutants, dredging, and other disturbances on aquatic biota, wildlife and ecosystems
  • Marine, estuarine, freshwater and wetland biology and ecosystem analysis
  • Aquatic toxicology including modeling of exposure, uptake, depuration, bioaccumulation, and toxicity; analysis and modeling of plankton, nutrient dynamics, and eutrophication in freshwater and estuarine systems
